PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari is set to vie for the coveted position of prime minister in the upcoming elections, with his father and former president Asif Ali Zardari nominated for the role of president, according to Faisal Karim Kundi, the party’s information secretary.
This confirmation follows recent statements by Zardari, suggesting that the party had yet to decide on its prime ministerial candidate.
“Bilawal can be the candidate, and I can be too… Khurshid Shah also expresses interest in being made the prime minister,” he stated.
Addressing the media in Islamabad today, Kundi affirmed that Bilawal would indeed be the candidate for the prime ministerial seat.
“We aspire to recreate the 2018 scenario and elect Asif Zardari as the president,” he added, potentially alluding to the 2008 elections when Zardari assumed the presidency. Kundi expressed the party’s desire to replicate the 2018 scenario, with Asif Zardari becoming president.
Emphasizing the party’s stance that elections should not be delayed beyond Feb 8, 2024, Kundi criticized the PML-N’s reluctance to participate in elections and compared the popularity of PPP’s rallies to those of Nawaz Sharif.
He also condemned the use of social media bans during elections, asserting it goes against freedom of expression. Kundi addressed Nawaz’s recent acquittals, criticizing the NAB for alleged political manipulation and called for accountability for past actions.
In response to a recent terror incident, he urged the implementation of the National Action Plan and questioned the resettlement of terrorists in the country. Lastly, he commented on the Supreme Court’s consideration of a presidential reference, advocating for justice for Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and punishment for those involved in his martyrdom, regardless of their positions.
