Following a notable decline in petroleum product prices, transporters have announced a corresponding 7% reduction in bus fares.
The Secretary of the Punjab Regional Transport Authority (RTA) confirmed that transporters were urged to align bus fares with the decrease in petrol prices, and they have agreed to implement a 7% fare reduction.
The secretary stated that a new fare list is currently being prepared, which will be shared with the transporters. In the interim, banners displaying the revised fares will be prominently featured at bus stands.
This positive development comes after Pakistan’s caretaker government revealed a substantial cut in fuel prices. Petrol prices have decreased by Rs14, and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs13.50 per litre for the next two weeks. The Ministry of Finance attributed this adjustment to the recent decline in international oil prices and an improvement in Pakistan’s exchange rate.
With the revised prices, petrol is now priced at Rs267.34 per litre, and HSD is available at Rs276.21. This significant double-digit reduction, approximately 5%, in fuel costs provides relief to consumers grappling with inflation and the escalating cost of living.
Pakistan Calls For Investigation Into The Origin Of TTP Weapons Supply
Meanwhile, during a UN Security Council open debate on the threat posed by small arms and light weapons, Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative, Usman Jadoon, raised concerns about the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) acquiring modern weaponry for terrorist attacks.
He emphasized the need for a UN panel to investigate how TTP obtains sophisticated weapons, pointing to the potential involvement of illicit arms markets or entities seeking to destabilize specific regions. Ambassador Jadoon stressed that preventing the illicit trade, transfer, and diversion of these arms is a collective responsibility of states and the UN.
Additionally, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Munir Akram, called for the establishment of a special tribunal and accountability mechanism to investigate Israel’s alleged war crimes against Palestinians.
