Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani of the Islamabad High Court has resolved a petition addressing the harassment faced by Baloch protesters and has mandated the provision of necessary facilities to them. The court instructed authorities to ensure the security of Baloch protesters advocating for the recovery of missing persons.
During the proceedings, the court expressed displeasure when the advocate general attempted to discuss the Pakistan-Iran dispute, rejecting the presentation of a USB device containing a press conference. Justice Kayani emphasized that he did not want or accept any USB, pointing out that daily press conferences occur, and he wouldn’t entertain them.
The judge asserted that the Baloch protesters were raising their concerns in the city and urged the authorities to address the matter rather than relying on the court. Justice Kayani remarked that even in Balochistan, the issues faced by the Baloch community had not been resolved.
In response to the situation, Justice Kayani requested details of cases registered against the Baloch individuals in Turbat or elsewhere, asking for submission to the petitioner’s lawyers. The advocate general informed the court that the Baloch protesters lacked permission to protest, but refrained from taking action due to the court’s interim relief.
Stating that the government wished for the Baloch protesters to return home, the advocate general revealed that the authorities were not intervening due to the court’s interim relief. Consequently, the court issued orders to provide details of cases against the Baloch protesters within seven days.
The petition of the Baloch protesters was disposed of by the court with specific directions. Lawyers representing the petitioners, including Imaan Mazari and Ataullah Kundi, were present during the court proceedings. On behalf of the district administration, Islamabad Advocate General Ayaz Shaukat and state counsel Abdul Rahman appeared before the court.
