In a recent gathering in Malakand, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), expressed his disapproval of the jubilation surrounding the sentencing of former Prime Minister Imran Khan in the cipher and Toshakhana cases. He emphasized the importance of upholding democratic principles above personal grudges.
Bilawal Bhutto criticized the irony of political rivals celebrating Imran Khan’s absence from electoral competitions and cautioned against descending into a cycle of revenge politics. He voiced concerns that if Imran Khan were to secure another term, similar vindictive tactics might persist.
Accusing Nawaz Sharif of orchestrating revenge politics by allegedly fabricating cases against his own daughter, Bhutto warned against perpetuating such practices and urged voters to consider the repercussions of electing leaders driven by personal vendettas.
Expressing disappointment in Imran Khan’s perceived shift from a symbol of hope to what he termed as “U-turn politics,” Bilawal Bhutto condemned the imprisonment of political opponents and their relatives.
He called on the electorate to make informed choices in the upcoming elections, emphasizing the need for a responsible and constructive political environment. Bhutto asserted that the PPP stands as the only party capable of countering the political ambitions of Nawaz Sharif and criticized the decisions made by the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), suggesting they contributed to rising terrorism.
Promising a different approach, Bhutto pledged to release political detainees on the first day of assuming power, focusing on reducing the number of ministries and addressing the people’s grievances.
Concluding his address, Bilawal Bhutto urged Pakistanis to adopt a fresh perspective and called upon ideological workers from other parties, particularly the PML-G, to reconsider their affiliations, alleging a disregard for the voters’ mandate.
