KARACHI/LAHORE: Arrest warrants have been issued for several government employees who have neglected their election-related duty.
In Sindh, arrest warrants of 267 employees of the Sindh health department in Karachi were issued on Friday for neglecting their duties related to the 2024 elections.
The Returning Officer (RO) of PS-110-Karachi, South, Muhammad Hayyat, issued the arrest warrants, targeting both male and female employees who have persistently been absent from their election duties.
The police have received instructions to apprehend and present the absentee employees on Friday.
In a press statement after a meeting on February 1, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja emphasized that those attempting to disrupt the elections and peace would face strict consequences.
He reaffirmed that the General Elections 2024 would proceed as scheduled on February 8, dispelling any confusion or misunderstanding.
The CEC acknowledged terrorism as a significant threat to the electoral process but expressed confidence in the preparedness of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to overcome security challenges with the support of law enforcement agencies.
