At a press conference held at the party secretariat in Model Town, Attaullah Tarar, Deputy Secretary General of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), announced that the party would reveal its candidate for the prime minister position only after reaching a consensus with allied parties. Tarar expressed confidence in the PML-N’s ability to form a government in Punjab, having secured a simple majority in the province.
Tarar disclosed ongoing discussions with the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) for the formation of the government at the Centre. He highlighted efforts to incorporate newly elected members into the party.
The PML-N leader emphasized the importance of consensus among political allies before announcing a candidate for the premiership. He extended congratulations to all PML-N workers, elected members, and leaders on the party’s success in Punjab.
Addressing the election results, Tarar acknowledged that some elements had prematurely celebrated their success based on an initial 25 percent result announcement. However, he pointed out that as comprehensive results were revealed, these elements began alleging electoral malpractice and rigging concerns. Tarar admitted the defeat of prominent PML-N figures like Rana Sanaullah, Mian Javed Latif, Sheikh Rohail Asghar, and Khawaja Saad Rafique, stating that their loss indicated a lack of rigging by the PML-N in those cases. He reiterated that the party gracefully accepted electoral results in areas where they faced defeat.
