Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has recently announced the reinstatement of Sehat Card services in the province, starting from the first day of Ramadan, expected to fall on March 12. This move marks the revival of a health initiative initially launched by the PTI government during its tenure from 2013 to 2022. However, the Sehat Card services were discontinued during the rule of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and the subsequent caretaker government, leaving the population without this vital health coverage for nearly two years.
The Sehat Card offers health insurance coverage for medical treatments, ensuring accessibility to the entire population of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In response to the provincial government’s directives, State Life Insurance, the company responsible for Sehat Card, has issued letters to the Zonal heads in Peshawar and Swat, instructing them to facilitate the restoration of the Sehat Card.
A pivotal meeting between the Chief Minister and the insurance company took place on March 8 at the Chief Minister’s residence. During this meeting, Gandapur granted authorization to the insurance company to reintroduce Sehat Card Plus in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The reinstated card will once again provide people with free access to medical treatments throughout the province.
Gandapur highlighted that Sehat Card Plus services will commence from the first day of Ramadan, ensuring uninterrupted healthcare services for all patients. Additionally, special counters will be established in hospitals to facilitate patients, program branding will be implemented, and helpline numbers will be prominently displayed in all healthcare facilities.
Emphasizing the significance of Sehat Health Card Plus, Ali Amin Gandapur underlined that the initiative is committed to guaranteeing the welfare of the people, ensuring that they have access to essential medical services. This announcement is poised to have a positive impact on the healthcare landscape in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, promoting inclusivity and safeguarding the health and well-being of the province’s residents.
