US Ambassador Donald Blome met with National Assembly (NA) Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Saturday to underscore the importance of parliamentary cooperation between Pakistan and the United States.
During the meeting, Ambassador Blome and Speaker Sadiq discussed enhancing bilateral relations between their respective countries, covering a wide array of mutual interests, according to a press release from the National Assembly Secretariat. Speaker Sadiq reaffirmed Pakistan’s enduring and multifaceted relationship with the US, grounded in principles of mutual respect and trust.
In addition to congratulating Speaker Sadiq on his re-election, Ambassador Blome also engaged in discussions with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif a day earlier on various bilateral issues. Their talks encompassed partnering with Pakistan on regional security, US backing for ongoing economic reforms facilitated by the International Monetary Fund, trade and investment collaboration, educational initiatives, climate change mitigation, and fostering private sector-driven economic growth.
Ambassador Blome reiterated US support for Pakistan’s democratic processes and emphasized the pivotal role of an independent press. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed contentment with the current state of bilateral relations, stressing the importance of sustaining positive momentum through regular dialogue mechanisms. These dialogues would center on trade, investment, energy, healthcare, defense, education, agriculture, and climate change.
The meeting also delved into several bilateral and regional matters of significance, including the situations in Gaza and the Red Sea, developments in Afghanistan, as well as the case of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, which the Prime Minister vigorously addressed.
