Syria Strike
Iran’s supreme leader adviser issues a warning on Sunday, stating that Israeli embassies are now considered unsafe following a strike in Syria attributed to Israel, resulting in the death of seven Revolutionary Guards members.
Yahya Rahim Safavi, senior adviser to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, conveyed this message, emphasizing Tehran’s determination to retaliate against the Damascus airstrike, which also targeted the Iranian embassy’s consular annex.
Safavi highlighted the readiness of the “resistance front” to respond, asserting that opposing what he termed as a “brutal regime” is a legal and legitimate right.
Additionally, Safavi noted the closure of multiple Israeli embassies in the region, although there was no immediate response from Israel regarding these assertions.
The attack on Monday, reportedly resulting in the deaths of 16 individuals according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, marked the fifth in a series of raids on Syria within a week, all attributed to Israel.
Among the casualties were Generals Mohammad Reza Zahedi and Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, high-ranking commanders in the Quds Force, the IRGC’s foreign operations arm.
Zahedi’s extensive military career spanned over 40 years, making him the most senior Iranian soldier killed since the 2020 U.S. missile strike that targeted General Qasem Soleimani at Baghdad airport.
The strike occurred against the backdrop of Israel’s military operations in Gaza, initiated following an attack by Hamas on October 7, which resulted in Israeli casualties.
While Tehran supports Hamas, it denies direct involvement in the attack that triggered significant Israeli retaliation against Gaza.
The conflict between Iran and Israel is longstanding, characterized by a series of sabotage attacks and assassinations attributed to Israel targeting Iran’s nuclear program.
Iran, which does not recognize Israel’s legitimacy, accuses Israel of conducting these operations as part of a shadow war between the two nations.
