Jordan’s King Abdullah II emphasized the imperative for his country to avoid being drawn into a broader regional conflict, following Jordan’s interception of multiple missiles and drones during Iran’s recent attack on Israel.
He reiterated Jordan’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing its security and sovereignty above all else, emphasizing that its actions were aimed at safeguarding its own borders rather than aligning with Israel.
Over the weekend, Jordan joined other nations in assisting Israel in repelling missiles, rockets, and attack drones launched by Iran and its allies.
Earlier the same day, Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi called for the international community to prevent Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from diverting attention away from Gaza by escalating tensions with Iran.
Safadi, speaking at a press conference in Berlin alongside his German counterpart, highlighted Iran’s indication of a desire to avoid further escalation following the attack on its consulate.
Safadi accused Netanyahu of seeking to shift focus away from Gaza and towards a confrontation with Iran.
The weekend attack by Iran resulted in limited damage in Israel and caused injuries, including to a young girl. Most of the projectiles were intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome defense system, aided by support from the US, Britain, France, and Jordan.
Following the attack, Iran warned Jordan that it could be the next target, according to Iran’s Fars news agency.
