A temporary airspace closure on Friday led to minor flight delays at Islamabad International Airport, causing a brief period of disruption to international travel schedules. Despite the unexpected changes, airport operations remained largely smooth, with immigration processes continuing efficiently.
According to a statement from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) spokesperson, the FIA Immigration staff successfully managed to process the immigration of 2,847 outbound passengers within just three hours. This was made possible through swift and effective operational adjustments.
FIA Maintains Full Operational Capacity Amid Sudden Surge
All 14 immigration counters at the departure terminal remained fully staffed and operational throughout the period. During this three-hour window, a total of 12 international flights departed from Islamabad, even as flight schedules were being rapidly adjusted due to the airspace closure.
The FIA noted that the sudden change in departure times resulted in an unusually high volume of passengers leaving the airport at the same time. However, thanks to proactive measures and streamlined procedures, the agency was able to maintain smooth passenger flow and avoid extended delays.

The FIA emphasized that all passenger screenings and immigration clearances were conducted in full accordance with standard operating procedures and regulatory guidelines. The department reaffirmed its dedication to providing high-quality, prompt, and secure services to travellers, regardless of operational challenges.
The airspace restriction was lifted shortly thereafter, and regular flight operations resumed with minimal residual delays. Authorities did not provide details on the cause of the airspace closure, but assured the public that all necessary measures were taken to mitigate its impact.
