At least six militants were killed by security forces in two separate operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) last night, according to a statement from the military’s media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The first operation targeted a group of terrorists attempting to infiltrate from Afghanistan into the Khamrang area of South Waziristan District. Security forces successfully intercepted their movement, resulting in the deaths of five militants, with three others injured.
In a second incident, an intelligence-based operation was carried out in the Dosali area of North Waziristan District. During this operation, one militant, identified as Ahmed Shah Intizar, was killed after the troops engaged his location.
The military spokesperson reiterated Pakistan’s ongoing call for the interim Afghan government to enhance border management and prevent the use of Afghan territory for launching terrorist attacks against Pakistan. They expressed hope that the Afghan authorities would fulfill their responsibilities in this regard.
The statement emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to securing its borders and combating terrorism.
Recent data from the Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) indicates a sharp rise in violence, with a 90% increase in fatalities from terrorist attacks and counter-terrorism operations in the third quarter of 2024. A total of 722 people, including civilians and security personnel, were killed in 328 incidents during this period, primarily in KP and Balochistan. The total fatalities for the first three quarters of this year have already surpassed the total for all of 2023, with 1,534 deaths compared to 1,523 in the previous year.
Despite these challenges, terrorist groups continue to reorganize, and many attacks remain unclaimed, likely for tactical reasons.
