On Thursday, the Supreme Court directed that funds transferred from abroad by Bahria Town should be allocated to both the Centre and the Sindh government.
According to the order, approximately Rs35 billion will go to the federal government, while Rs30 billion will be allocated to the Sindh government from the total amount of around Rs65 billion remitted from abroad.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa, leading a three-member bench, presided over the hearing in the Bahria Town Karachi case that led to this decision.
During the proceedings, Bahria Town’s Chief Executive Officer, Malik Riaz Hussain, argued that the funds remitted from abroad for the benefit of Bahria Town (Pvt) Ltd (BTPL) were outside the scope of the ongoing proceedings before the apex court.
In response, the CEO submitted his reply, and the Karachi commissioner presented a report related to the housing project. The Advocate General for Sindh asserted that the amount remitted from the United Kingdom should be allocated to the province.
