ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has left for Dubai on a personal visit. His stay abroad is expected to last approximately ten days.
The trip comes shortly after Bilawal publicly voiced strong opposition to the controversial canal project on the Indus River, urging Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to scrap the plan.
Speaking at a public gathering in Garhi Khuda Bux on Friday, held to mark the 46th death anniversary of former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Bilawal made it clear that the PPP stands with the people against any divisive development projects.
“If the people are against these canals, the Pakistan People’s Party will side with them—not with the government,” Bilawal declared, addressing thousands of supporters.
Directly addressing the prime minister, he said, “This demand is not just ours, it comes from the people. If we are to remain united as brothers, the project must be rolled back.”
The PPP chairman also issued a stern warning that his party would not tolerate any “irresponsible decisions” regarding water distribution, and would strongly oppose any initiatives that risk dividing the country or threatening national unity.
Bilawal’s departure comes at a politically sensitive moment, as opposition mounts over the canal project and the broader implications it may have on inter-provincial harmony and resource allocation.
