ISLAMABAD: On Friday, the National Accountability Bureau issued a summons to Bushra Bibi, the wife of the former Prime Minister, directing her to appear before the NAB Rawalpindi office in Islamabad on December 11. This summons is in connection with the Toshakhana case.
The notice from the anti-graft body asserts that investigations have revealed that during the tenure of her husband, Imran Khan, as the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Bushra Bibi received substantial gifts from foreign dignitaries, amounting to millions of rupees, and allegedly retained these gifts.
According to the notice, in 2019, Bushra Bibi reportedly retained one locket with a chain, a pair of ear tops, two rings, and a pair of bracelets. In the subsequent year, 2020, she is said to have kept one necklace, one bracelet, one ring, and a pair of earrings. The notice also alleges that in 2021, Khan’s wife received one necklace with a chain, one pair of earrings, a ring, and a wristwatch.
The National Accountability Bureau emphasizes that these details have emerged during the course of their proceedings. The accusations suggest that Bushra Bibi, while acting as the First Lady, allegedly held onto valuable gifts from foreign officials, raising concerns about potential impropriety or violation of regulations related to the handling of such gifts.
As a result of these allegations, the anti-graft body has summoned Bushra Bibi to provide clarification and address the concerns surrounding the gifts received during the period when her husband held the position of Prime Minister. The specified date for her appearance is Monday, December 11, at the NAB Rawalpindi office in Islamabad. This development adds another layer of scrutiny to the political landscape, involving a high-profile figure and allegations of impropriety.
