Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has announced a significant increase in compensation for families of those who lost their lives in the recent floods, raising the amount from Rs1 million to Rs2 million per family.
The announcement came during his visit to the severely affected Buner district, where he chaired a high-level meeting at the deputy commissioner’s office to assess the damage and review ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts.
The meeting was attended by PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar, provincial ministers, the chief secretary, and local administration officials. A special prayer was offered in memory of the victims.
Relief Operations in Full Swing as Death Toll Reaches 209
Officials briefed the Chief Minister that devastating cloudbursts had damaged 5,380 houses across seven village councils in Buner. The disaster has so far claimed 209 lives, with 134 people still missing and 159 injured.

Heavy machinery, including 10 excavators, 10 bulldozers, 22 tractors, 10 de-watering pumps, and five water bowsers, is being used to support rescue efforts. The Pakistan Army is also assisting local authorities.
Essential supplies—such as food, tents, blankets, mattresses, and medical aid—are being delivered to affected families. Road clearance work is ongoing, with six kilometers reopened in Pir Baba and 3.5 kilometers in Gokand, while landslide debris has been removed from 15 key locations.
An emergency relief operation has been declared in eight districts, including Buner, as floodwaters continue to affect vast areas. So far, more than 3,500 people trapped by the floods have been rescued safely.
