Court exempts Imran Khan from appearing in Toshakhana case
ISLAMABAD: A local court in Islamabad exempted Imran Khan for appearing in the Toshakhana case.
The district and sessions judge Zafar Iqbal adjourned the hearing of the case till April 29.
Earlier, District and Sessions Judge Zafar Iqbal summoned the former premier in his personal capacity in this case on Thursday.
However, through his lawyer, Imran Khan filed a request for exemption from attendance based on an ongoing 3-day strike in the Islamabad bar.
On this, prosecutor Amjad Parvez commented that even if Imran’s lawyer is involved in the protest, it would be necessary for him to ensure his presence in court during the trial.
Khawaja Harris represented the former premier Imran Khan in the court today. He told the court that his client was absent from the court because of security concerns as the government had withdrawn his security amid threats to his life.
Khawaja Harris suggested that PTI chairman could attend the hearing via video link, if court allowed it.
Therefore, Imran’s counsel requested a two-week adjournment of the hearing. Meanwhile, advocate Faisal Chaudhry suggested that the hearing be scheduled after Ramadan.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, a local court in Islamabad issued non-bailable arrest warrants against Imran Khan for threatening a female judge Zeba Chaudhry.
Judicial magistrate Malik Aman announced the verdict, rejecting the request for relief from Imran’s counsel and ordering his presence in court on April 18.
Last year, a case was registered against the former prime minister registered last year for his remarks at a rally in F9 Park.
In his remarks, he warned Additional District and Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry and police high-ups of dire consequences for what he called their “biased” attitude towards his party.
