In a case that drew widespread attention after a viral video circulated on social media, a young man who was assaulted in Karachi’s Defence area has formally forgiven the accused, Salman Farooqi, during a court appearance.
The incident took place when Salman Farooqi, reportedly the head of a local company, became enraged following a collision between his vehicle and a motorcycle. Farooqi, along with his guards, physically assaulted the motorcyclist, while the victim’s sisters pleaded for leniency at the scene.
During the hearing at the court of the Judicial Magistrate South in Karachi, the victim, Sudhir, appeared at the request of his legal counsel. He identified the accused and clarified that he had been unaware of the court’s summons. When questioned by the court, Sudhir denied facing any threats or pressure and expressed his decision not to pursue legal action, stating he had pardoned the accused and had no objection to the court’s ruling.
The police presented both Salman Farooqi and Owais Hashmi before the magistrate. After the preliminary hearing, the court ordered their remand and directed the investigating officer to submit a progress report during the next session.
