As Pakistan prepares for its upcoming elections, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued stringent directives to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process. To maintain impartiality, the ECP has implemented strict guidelines prohibiting government officers and employees from participating in any election-related activities.
Government employees are explicitly barred from involvement in election events, emphasizing the crucial need for their neutrality during this significant period. The ECP has also imposed a conditional ban on holidays to prevent government officers from engaging in election activities, thereby safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process.
Approximately 17,500 highly sensitive polling stations nationwide will undergo close surveillance through CCTV cameras. The Commission’s control room in Islamabad will soon begin operations, overseeing the monitoring of these stations. Vigilant monitoring teams are promptly addressing any violations of the election code of conduct and taking necessary actions to preserve the sanctity of the electoral process.
Additionally, the ECP has unveiled plans to install CCTV cameras at more than 6,500 polling stations in Punjab, 4,500 in Sindh, 2,000 in Balochistan, and 4,500 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This meticulous monitoring process will continue until the finalization of the election results.
The control room in Islamabad, set to start operations on December 27, will serve as the nerve center, ensuring seamless coordination with various stakeholders, including Assistant Returning Officers (AROs) and District Returning Officers (DROs) throughout the electoral stages.
In a noteworthy development, the Election Commission has released priority lists for political parties competing for minority seats. Notably, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has been omitted from these ongoing priority lists, indicating a noteworthy shift in the electoral dynamics.
Concurrently, the electoral watchdog has launched a robust campaign to enforce adherence to the election code of conduct. Monitoring teams are taking swift action, removing promotional materials that violate the guidelines in Islamabad.
