The country’s primary electoral authority has prolonged the deadline for the submission and reception of nomination papers until December 24.
This decision follows requests from political parties such as PML-N, MQM-P, JUI-F, and the GDA.
It’s worth noting that numerous aspiring politicians have already submitted their nomination papers for the upcoming February 8 general elections, with others rushing to do so today in light of the previous deadline.
As outlined in the election schedule issued by the overseeing body, the initial list of candidates will be disclosed by Saturday. Scrutiny of the nomination papers is set to commence on Sunday and will continue until December 30.
Pakistan is gearing up for the postponed general elections on February 8. The incoming government will face a multitude of challenges, including the imperative to boost the economy and enhance the law and order situation in the country.
Appeals regarding the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers can be filed by January 3, with decisions expected by January 10. The revised list of candidates will be published by the Election Commission of Pakistan on January 11, and candidates can withdraw their papers until January 12.
Electoral symbols will be allocated on January 13.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has disclosed the roster of 175 officially registered political parties. Among these listings, key party affiliations and their respective leaders have been revealed.
Notably, the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), presided over by President Abdul Aleem Khan, is among the registered entities.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) finds its registration linked to its former Chairman, Pervez Khattak, while the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) are registered under the names of Shehbaz Sharif and Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, respectively.
