Elon Musk, a close adviser to President-elect Donald J. Trump, met with Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, on Monday in New York, according to two Iranian officials. The officials described the meeting as a discussion focused on de-escalating tensions between Iran and the United States.
The meeting, which lasted over an hour and took place at a confidential location, was characterized by the Iranian sources as “positive” and “good news.” These officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the conversation aimed at easing bilateral tensions, though they declined to offer further details.
When asked about the meeting, Steven Cheung, Trump’s communications director, responded, “We do not comment on reports of private meetings that did or did not occur.” Musk did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Karoline Leavitt, spokesperson for the Trump transition team, issued a statement affirming Trump’s commitment to restoring peace through strength. “The American people re-elected President Trump because they trust him to lead our country and restore peace through strength around the world,” she said. “When he returns to the White House, he will take the necessary action to do just that.”
