The Foreign Office on Tuesday firmly rejected misleading claims circulating on social media regarding Pakistan’s role in the Human Rights Council resolution on Palestine, calling the reports factually incorrect and misleading.
Spokesperson Shafqat Ali clarified that the resolution was part of the annual joint initiative of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) group in Geneva, which focuses on accountability for Israeli actions in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Responding to the online speculation, Shafqat stated, “Pakistan, as the coordinator of the OIC group, formally presented the resolution. However, as per standard procedure, it was not Pakistan’s individual initiative, nor did it make any unilateral amendments to the text.”
He further emphasized that the Palestinian delegation approved the final draft, and the resolution was guided entirely by Palestine’s own priorities, with the OIC group giving the final nod before submission.
Rejecting allegations of bias or compromise, the spokesperson underlined that Pakistan does not recognise Israel and, as a matter of principle, does not participate in multilateral initiatives alongside it. Any claim suggesting that Israeli concerns or input were accommodated in the resolution was described as baseless and unfounded.
The Foreign Office urged the public to avoid spreading misinformation and to rely on verified sources for matters of national and diplomatic importance.
