Former finance minister Shaukat Tarin announced his departure from politics on Friday. He clarified that he had resigned from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and stepped down from the Senate after consulting with his family and friends.
Tarin emphasized that economic and health challenges had burdened the country for over two years.
In a related development, PTI joint secretary Noman Shah chose to leave the party on Thursday, citing the events that unfolded on May 9 as a significant factor. Shah expressed difficulty in supporting the deposed premier after the May 9 incidents, criticizing the party’s top leadership for decisions that adversely affected the workers. He specifically criticized former Punjab chief minister Usman Buzdar and Farah Gogi, accusing them of promoting corruption.
Shah lamented the state of the PTI intra-party elections, stating that holding fake elections would not uplift the party. He also criticized the appointment of Barrister Gohar as the new PTI chief, claiming that party workers were frustrated with this decision.
Sindh High Court Suspends Ban On Imran Khan’s Statements On TV
Meanwhile, the Sindh High Court has temporarily lifted a ban on the broadcast of Imran Khan’s speeches, which was imposed through a notification by the Pakistan Electronic Media Authority on December 4.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) contested the notification by the Pakistan Electronic Media Authority (PEMRA) dated December 4, which prohibited the media from broadcasting statements made by Imran Khan. Ali Tahir, the lawyer representing PTI, contended that the ban on airing statements from a former prime minister was unlawful, and PEMRA had issued the notification in violation of the law. The lawyer urged the court to nullify the notification.
However, the court, after considering the arguments, announced that it was reserving its decision and temporarily suspended the notification. The court also issued notices to PEMRA and the federal government, instructing them to provide responses by December 21.
