NORTH WAZIRISTAN: At least four civilians were injured in a suspected suicide bombing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s North Waziristan district on Saturday, police officials confirmed.
District Police Officer (DPO) Waqar Ahmed told that the attack involved a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED), which was detonated in what appeared to be a targeted suicide attack.
Rescue and security teams arrived at the scene shortly after the explosion, and the injured were shifted to a nearby hospital. Authorities are currently verifying the scale of damage and the full extent of casualties, which remain unconfirmed at this stage.
The incident comes amid a rise in militant activity in the region. Earlier this week, two soldiers were martyred and 11 terrorists were killed during an intelligence-based operation in South Waziristan. On June 15, a Frontier Corps (FC) soldier was also martyred in a targeted gun attack in Ladha tehsil of Upper South Waziristan.
Earlier this month, security forces killed 14 militants in a major operation in Datta Khel, North Waziristan.
According to recent data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), the country experienced 85 militant attacks in May, up from 81 in April. However, the report noted that militant groups struggled to significantly escalate operations during the period.
The military continues to accuse India of fomenting instability, with Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry citing “irrefutable evidence” of Indian involvement in cross-border terror activities.
Pakistan remains one of the countries most impacted by terrorism. The Global Terrorism Index 2025 ranks it second globally, with terror-related fatalities rising 45% over the past year, reaching 1,081 deaths.
This is a developing story. Further updates will follow as more information becomes available.
