GILGIT: The Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts team made a remarkable showing at the National Cross-Country Ski Championship and the International FIS Cross-Country Ski Championship, winning both trophies at the competitions held in Rattu, Astore district, from February 7 to 14.
The 3rd International FIS Cross-Country Ski Race and the 14th National Cross-Country Ski Championship were hosted at the Army High Altitude School in Rattu. A total of 19 male athletes from the Pakistan Army, Pakistan Air Force, Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts, and Malaysia competed across two categories.
The events were overseen by Koyuncu Ozkan, the technical delegate from the International Ski Federation (FIS) and organized by the Winter Sports Federation of Pakistan.
GB Scouts’ Hussain Shah was the star performer of the competition, clinching four gold medals—three in the International FIS Cross-Country Ski Races and one in the National Cross-Country Ski Championship. His outstanding performance played a key role in GB Scouts’ victory in both tournaments.
In the 10km FIS Cross-Country Ski Race, Hussain Shah earned gold, with Pakistan Army’s Shakeel taking silver and GB Scouts’ Imran Khan securing bronze.
In the second 10km race, Hussain Shah again dominated, claiming gold. GB Scouts’ Nazir Shah took silver, while Pakistan Army’s Shakeel finished with bronze.
The 15km FIS Cross-Country Ski Race saw another stellar performance by Hussain Shah, who earned his third gold medal. Nazir Shah of GB Scouts took silver, and Pakistan Army’s Abdul Aleem claimed bronze.
The 15km National Cross-Country Ski Race had similar results, with Hussain Shah securing gold, Nazir Shah taking silver, and Abdul Aleem finishing with bronze.
The closing ceremony of the championship will be held on Monday, where the winners will be honoured for their exceptional achievements.
A statement released after the event congratulated the GB Scouts for their outstanding performance in both the National and International FIS Ski Championships.
