Celebrations
TEHRAN: Following Iran’s forceful response to a recent Israeli attack on its diplomatic mission in Damascus, celebrations have erupted across the globe, reflecting a complex mixture of political and emotional reactions from Tehran to Toronto and from al-Quds to other parts of the world.
On a recent Saturday, the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) carried out a calculated retaliation involving missile and drone strikes aimed at Israeli-occupied territories.
This response was directed at an April 1st assault by Israel, which resulted in the deaths of Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi and other key IRGC figures.
The news of Iran’s retaliatory strikes spurred widespread celebrations. In Tehran, large crowds gathered at significant public places like Palestine Square and the University of Tehran, energetically waving flags and voicing slogans that echoed their support for the IRGC and their condemnation of Israeli actions.
Similar scenes of public jubilation were also evident in Mashhad. Here, demonstrators convened outside the significant religious site, Imam Reza’s Shrine, to voice their denunciations of Israeli aggression while praising Iran’s assertive military response.
Even within the Israeli-occupied territories, such as al-Quds, Palestinians expressed their support for Iran’s actions, seeing them as a form of justified retaliation.
In Gaza, the reaction was similarly supportive, with residents celebrating as news of the strikes spread.
The resonance of Iran’s military actions was not confined to the region. Globally, expressions of solidarity were seen in cities far from the immediate zone of conflict.
For instance, in Karbala, Iraq, and Beirut, Lebanon, people gathered outside Iranian embassies to show their support.
In Toronto, Canada, pro-Palestinian activists celebrated by lighting fireworks and displaying balloons, symbolizing their endorsement of Iran’s response.
These global reactions highlight the significant geopolitical and emotional impact of Iran’s actions, which are viewed by many as a pivotal assertion of resistance against Israeli aggression.
This series of events underscores the deep-seated tensions and the complex interplay of regional and international politics surrounding the actions of Israel and Iran.
