Haris Rauf
Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf and New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra sustained injuries during the opening match of the tri-nation series featuring Pakistan, New Zealand, and South Africa.
The game, which was already a high-stakes encounter, turned into a concern for both teams as two key players were forced off the field due to injuries.
Rauf, known for his express pace and ability to trouble batters, experienced rib pain while bowling in the seventh over against New Zealand. The discomfort forced him to leave the field prematurely, leaving his over incomplete.
Salman Ali Agha was called in to finish the remaining deliveries of Rauf’s over. Following the incident, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed that Rauf had sustained a low-grade strain and was also experiencing discomfort in his abdominal muscles.
After the match, Pakistan’s wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan addressed the media, providing some relief to fans by stating that doctors had assessed Rauf’s injury and concluded that it was not overly serious.
However, concerns remain, as Rauf is a crucial part of Pakistan’s squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, scheduled to take place later this month.
With Pakistan already missing batsman Saim Ayub, who withdrew from the tournament due to an injury, any potential absence of Rauf would be another setback for the team.
Meanwhile, New Zealand also suffered a blow during the same match when Rachin Ravindra was injured while fielding.
The all-rounder attempted to catch a powerful straight drive from Pakistan’s Khushdil Shah in the 38th over, but the ball struck his face, causing immediate bleeding. He was promptly taken off the field for medical attention.
Pakistan eventually lost the match, compounding their worries as they not only suffered a defeat but also saw one of their key bowlers sustain an injury.
With both teams dealing with injury concerns, the tri-nation series has already posed significant challenges, and both sides will be hoping for a swift recovery for their injured players before the tournament progresses further.
