Veteran all-rounder aims for turnaround season with strong squad and united team spirit
KARACHI: Former Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim has been officially appointed as the captain of the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons for the upcoming Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025, which kicks off this Friday. The franchise confirmed the news through a creative Captain America-themed animated video shared across its social media platforms.
Imad, who brings a wealth of experience to the role, has already played 64 CPL matches across seven seasons, picking up 70 wickets at an average of 20.22. He has also contributed with the bat, scoring 802 runs, including two half-centuries. Known for his all-round capabilities and calm leadership, Imad is set to lead a side eager to bounce back after a disappointing campaign last year.
Reacting to his appointment, the 36-year-old expressed both gratitude and determination. “It is a big honour to captain any side, especially Antigua and Barbuda Falcons,” Imad said. “Last year, we didn’t do well, but hopefully this year we’re going to perform better—for the fans, for the owners, and for our team.”
The left-arm spinner praised the team composition for the 2025 season, which features big names like Rahkeem Cornwall, Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan, and West Indies pacer Jayden Seales, who is currently in impressive form. However, Imad emphasized that individual talent alone wouldn’t be enough.
“It’s all about how we gel together, how we play as a unit,” he stressed. “Individually, we’ve been doing well, but now we need to click collectively if we want to win games.”
Looking ahead, Imad expressed strong belief in his squad’s ability to go the distance. “It means the world to me. Any trophy you win brings satisfaction. No one remembers the runners-up; everyone remembers the champions. Hopefully, we’ll be the winning team this year.”
With a fresh leadership approach and renewed focus, the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons are aiming for a breakout season in CPL 2025 under Imad Wasim’s captaincy.
