A team comprising well-equipped police and paramilitary officials from the capital police has been formed to present former Prime Minister Imran Khan before a special court at the Federal Judicial Complex today.
The case is registered under the Official Secrets Act. Imran Khan, currently held at Adiala Jail, will be transported with tight security, including SUVs, police vehicles, and armored personnel carriers.
The team received approval from higher authorities, and the final decision on execution was expected after midnight. Imran Khan is likely to be taken to the Federal Judicial Complex via Peshawar Road and Srinagar Highway.
The police have been instructed to devise security plans for the Judicial Complex and Red Zone, with Rangers and FC troops on standby for immediate deployment when required.
Despite the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) request for an extension in the physical remand of Imran Khan in a corruption case being denied by an accountability court in Islamabad, security measures are being intensified. Rangers with anti-riot gear will form an inner security ring, while FC teams, also equipped with anti-riot gear, will be in a middle-security ring around the complex.
Additional police units, including an anti-riot unit and Counter-Terrorism Department teams, will be stationed on roads leading to the complex, with paramilitary troops and police deployed at key points such as Faizabad, Zero Point, Peshawar Morr, and Golr Morr. The Red Zone will have restricted entry.
The corruption case involves Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, who allegedly received significant sums and extensive land from Malik Riaz, the owner of Bahria Town, to settle funds recovered by a UK agency against his obligations in the Supreme Court. The UK’s National Crime Agency repatriated 190 million pounds in 2019, but it was later transferred to the Supreme Court for settling Malik Riaz’s liabilities related to land acquisition in Karachi.
The court rejected NAB’s request for an extension of Imran Khan’s physical remand and placed him on judicial remand for two weeks. Outside Adiala Jail, an incident occurred involving protesters targeting Imran Khan’s wife’s vehicle, but jail security intervened to manage the situation.
