Pakistani Currency Note
Authorities in Pune district, India, have launched an inquiry after a Pakistani Rs20 currency note was discovered near a service lift in the Manas Lake Housing Society, located in Bhukum village.
The note was found by Sahdev Yadav, the chairman of the residential society, who immediately reported the incident to the Bavdhan police station.
The housing society, which consists of 84 flats, is situated approximately 18 kilometers from the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Khadakwasla, a strategically significant military institution.
The discovery of foreign currency in such proximity to a defense installation has raised concerns, prompting law enforcement to investigate the matter.
According to Anil Vibhute, the officer in charge of the Bavdhan police station, the note was submitted by residents along with a formal application requesting an inquiry. “After finding the note, the residents of the society approached us, and we have since launched an investigation. The next course of action will be determined based on our findings,” he stated.
One of the primary challenges in the investigation is the lack of CCTV footage from the service lift where the note was found.
It was revealed that a surveillance camera installed near the lift had been non-functional since November 24 of the previous year, making it difficult to ascertain how the currency note arrived at the location.
Despite this setback, police officials are reviewing footage from other CCTV cameras in the area and gathering statements from residents to piece together any possible leads.
At this stage, no First Information Report (FIR) has been registered regarding the incident, as authorities are still assessing whether any legal violations or security concerns are involved.
The case has sparked curiosity and speculation among residents, as Pakistani currency is not commonly found in India.
Investigators are considering multiple possibilities, including the chance that the note was misplaced by someone who had previously traveled to Pakistan or if it was deliberately placed there for unknown reasons.
Law enforcement officials remain vigilant as they attempt to uncover the origins of the currency note and determine whether any further action is warranted.
