The UK Foreign Office has updated its travel guidance for 18 countries following Israeli airstrikes on Iran on October 26. Among the affected countries are popular winter destinations for British travelers, including Dubai, Tunisia, and Egypt.
The advisory now covers Cyprus, Turkey, Bahrain, Egypt, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Algeria, Tunisia, Syria, Lebanon, Iran, Morocco, the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Israel, and Libya.
“Ongoing hostilities in the region and between Israel and Lebanon could escalate quickly, posing risks across the wider region,” the notice states.
It also highlighted recent tensions, noting that “Iran launched around 200 ballistic missiles at Israel on October 1, followed by Israeli military action against Iran on October 26.”
Travelers are urged to consult the full details of the Foreign Office’s advisory if planning to visit any of these countries. The UK strongly advises against travel to Iran and issues specific warnings for parts of Egypt, particularly North Sinai and areas near the Libyan border.
Additionally, British citizens are cautioned against all but essential travel near Saudi Arabia’s border with Yemen and the borders of Algeria with Libya, Niger, Mali, and Mauritania. The advisory includes warnings for Tunisia’s borders with Algeria and Libya as well.
