TEHRAN / BAGHDAD / DOHA — Iran has launched a large-scale missile operation targeting U.S. military bases in Iraq and Qatar, state-aligned Tasnim News Agency reported late Monday, naming the campaign “Annunciation of Victory.” The strikes mark a dramatic escalation in Tehran’s retaliation following U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities over the weekend.
Which cited the Tasnim report, the operation is ongoing and aimed specifically at American military positions in Ain al-Asad Air Base in western Iraq and Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar — the latter serving as the forward headquarters of the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).
News described the campaign as a “decisive response to American aggression,” and state television aired footage of missile launches from undisclosed locations in Iran, accompanied by triumphant music and nationalistic slogans.
Iranian officials have not disclosed the scale of the damage or whether the missile strikes are complete or part of a larger, phased military campaign. There has also been no immediate confirmation or response from U.S. officials regarding the extent of any damage or casualties at the affected bases.
The Iranian operation comes after a series of U.S. airstrikes on June 22 that targeted Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, prompting international condemnation and fears of a broader regional war.
Iran’s Supreme National Security Council reportedly convened in emergency session shortly before the announcement of the missile attacks. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian issued a brief statement on social media, saying,
“This is a message of resolve. Iran will never tolerate aggression without a response.”
The strikes on U.S. military facilities in two separate countries mark one of Iran’s most direct and coordinated military actions against American forces in recent history.
Governments across the region have raised alert levels, with Qatar temporarily closing its airspace and Iraq placing its security forces on high readiness. The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is expected to hold an emergency session within the next 24 hours.
As of now, the situation remains fluid, and military analysts warn that further retaliation from both sides could be imminent. The United Nations Security Council is expected to meet in an emergency session to discuss the escalating crisis.
