ISLAMABAD: On Friday, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) issued an order to remove the name of former PTI leader Shireen Mazari from the Passport Control List (PCL), deeming the inclusion of her name unjust and unlawful.
The court directed the Director General of Immigration to promptly eliminate Mazari’s name and present a report within a week. The Deputy Registrar of the high court is set to receive the DG immigration’s report within the specified timeframe. The judgment, reserved by IHC Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, comes after Mazari’s name was added to the PCL based on recommendations from the Islamabad police.
Earlier, on November 22, the Islamabad High Court had reserved its decision on Shireen Mazari’s petition to have her name removed from the Passport Control List. During the hearing, Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri considered the plea filed by Mazari, with representation from the federal government through the Additional Attorney General and Deputy Attorney General, while advocate Tahir Kazim represented the police department.
In response to the court’s inquiry about the rationale behind placing Mazari’s name on the PCL, the police council cited seven ongoing cases against the former minister. The council argued that individuals facing financial hardships typically do not travel abroad, but Mazari had an extensive travel history.
Justice Jahangiri dismissed the argument, stating that having a lengthy travel history or facing multiple cases did not justify the inclusion of Mazari’s name on the PCL. Subsequently, after hearing the arguments, Justice Jahangiri reserved his ruling on Mazari’s plea to remove her name from the Passport Control List.
