The Islamabad–Murree glass train project is moving closer to realization, with experts recommending new route extensions. The consultant suggested connecting the planned line to Islamabad International Airport via Faizabad. This route aims to improve accessibility and reduce travel time for tourists and commuters.
Proposed Route and Planning
The glass train will initially run on a 40-kilometre elevated track from Bhara Kahu bypass to Pindi Point in Murree. Authorities plan to launch the service from Lake View Park, moving through the Bhara Kahu bypass. The consultant proposed utilizing the existing metro track between the airport and Faizabad for the elevated monorail.
Additionally, a 13-kilometre stretch from Faizabad to Bhara Kahu bypass is recommended. This link will connect the main station planned near Lake View Park to the bypass area. In future phases, the line could extend from Rawat to Faizabad along the Expressway. This extension would merge with the monorail at Faizabad.
Feasibility and Assessment
A pre-feasibility study has already been completed to evaluate technical and operational requirements. Following consultant recommendations, authorities plan to initiate a full feasibility study. The study will guide route design, construction planning, and project budgeting.
The proposal ensures the line will serve both practical commuting needs and tourism demands. Residents in Murree are expected to benefit from easier access to the capital, while tourists will enjoy a faster and scenic journey through the hills.
Government Support and Timeline
Punjab officials have repeatedly emphasized the need for an early launch of the glass train. The project aligns with broader transport modernization plans for Islamabad and Murree. The authorities are collaborating closely to ensure timely execution and effective integration with existing infrastructure.
The proposed route demonstrates a strategic approach to connect major urban hubs with tourist destinations. By linking the airport, Faizabad, and Murree, the service aims to offer convenience and elevate the travel experience.
Future Prospects
Once operational, the glass train will significantly reduce travel time and provide a unique experience for commuters and tourists. Plans for future expansion, including merging the line with other transit systems, are under consideration. The project highlights the growing focus on sustainable and modern transportation solutions in Pakistan.
