A fresh wave of militant attacks has struck Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, leaving security forces and police personnel martyred. Separate incidents occurred in Upper Dir, Kohat, and Mohmand districts, underlining the worsening security challenges in the province.
Attack on Frontier Corps in Upper Dir
Militants ambushed the 163 Wing of Bara Rifles in Barawal tehsil, located near the Afghanistan border. A fierce exchange of fire broke out, and the checkpost was briefly overrun. However, local volunteers joined the fight, forcing the militants to retreat.
Three Frontier Corps soldiers embraced martyrdom, while three others sustained injuries and were shifted to a nearby hospital. Reports suggested possible militant casualties, though independent confirmation was not available.
This assault reflects the growing frequency of cross-border militant incursions, raising concerns about the deteriorating law and order situation in border districts.
Police Patrol Targeted in Kohat
In Kohat’s Lachi tehsil, militants opened fire on a police patrol. The attack left one policeman martyred and two others injured. In retaliation, security forces conducted a search operation, killing three militants.
Authorities confirmed that the identification process of the dead militants was underway. Intense fighting continued in Paya near the Hangu border as security forces attempted to capture surviving militants.
Mohmand Attack Claims Another Policeman
A separate incident took place in Mohmand’s Pandiali tehsil. Militants attacked a police post during a search operation in Dawezai, killing Constable Mohammad Arif. Constables Hayat and Ibrar were also injured in the ambush.
Following the assault, security personnel launched a search and strike operation. Several suspected militant hideouts were destroyed, highlighting the determination of security forces to eliminate terrorist sanctuaries in the tribal belt.
Intelligence-Based Operation in Dera Ismail Khan
Meanwhile, security forces carried out an intelligence-based operation in Loni area of Kulachi tehsil, Dera Ismail Khan. The operation was launched after credible intelligence reports about militant presence.
During heavy crossfire, three terrorists, including a key commander, were killed. A significant cache of weapons and ammunition was recovered, preventing potential large-scale attacks.
Rising Terrorism Threats in KP
The recent surge in militant violence underscores the fragile security environment in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Border regions remain especially vulnerable due to proximity with Afghanistan. Security experts believe that local communities supporting security forces play a crucial role in resisting militant advances.
However, the recurring attacks on police and military installations point to the need for stronger intelligence coordination and sustained counter-terrorism operations.
With targeted assaults spreading across multiple districts, the province faces a growing challenge. Continued sacrifices of soldiers, police officers, and local volunteers highlight Pakistan’s ongoing battle against terrorism.
