Flood Threat Looms Over Charsadda and Nowshera, Urgent Action Requested
PESHAWAR – In a recent session of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Adviser to the Chief Minister on Housing, Dr. Amjad Ali, issued a serious warning about the imminent threat of flash floods in Charsadda and Nowshera districts. Citing the recent devastation in Malakand and Hazara divisions, where several lives were lost and infrastructure damaged, Dr. Ali called for urgent preventative measures to safeguard both public life and property.
He also stated that an appeal would be made to Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to declare an emergency in the affected divisions to accelerate relief efforts. According to Dr. Ali, floodwaters are expected to soon reach Charsadda and Nowshera, further raising the urgency for a proactive response from the local authorities.
Meanwhile, Special Assistant to the CM for Population, Liaquat Ali Khan, shifted the discussion to security concerns, claiming that under former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s leadership, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa experienced a period free from extortion and instability. He alleged that terrorist elements resettled in the province should now be sent back to Afghanistan to restore peace.
Heated Assembly Discussions and Legislative Activity
Liaquat Ali Khan also defended PTI’s imprisoned founder, Imran Khan, stating that unlike leaders from the PPP and PML-N who often cited health concerns during detentions, Imran Khan has shown resilience during his incarceration. He also accused opposition parties of hypocrisy, particularly for supporting the Mines and Mineral Bill in Balochistan but opposing a similar bill in KP. This led to heated exchanges between treasury and opposition benches.
During the question hour, PPP lawmaker Ahmad Karim Kundi raised concerns over the non-satisfactory response regarding surplus employees in the culture and tourism department. JUI-F’s Adnan Khan criticized discrepancies in police salary structures and called for better risk allowances and fair upgrades.
Several bills, including the KP Local Government Amendment Bill 2025, KP Tourism Amendment Bill 2025, and KP Press Newspapers, News Agencies and Books Registration Bill 2025, were introduced. Due to a lack of quorum, the session was adjourned until August 22.
