LAHORE: The Lahore Traffic Police have been granted the authority to handcuff individuals involved in illegal parking and encroachments.
This measure was introduced to address ongoing traffic congestion caused by unlawful activities in busy areas. During the first three days of enforcement, authorities arrested 500 individuals for violations, including unauthorized parking stands and illegal encroachments.
The initiative aims to streamline traffic flow and ensure smooth movement across the city. Officials reported that the operation focused on removing obstacles and restoring order in areas notorious for traffic jams. Authorities pledged to maintain the crackdown’s momentum to sustain these improvements.
Newly appointed Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) DIG Athar Waheed explained that the new strategy replaces the previous reliance on repeated fines. He highlighted that stricter enforcement is intended to deter violations and support long-term traffic management reforms.
The campaign specifically targeted key areas affected by bottlenecks, with swift action taken against offenders. Authorities remain committed to continuing operations to curb violations and ensure compliance with traffic laws.
In collaboration with various departments, the Lahore Traffic Police reiterated their determination to clear illegal encroachments and effectively regulate parking to sustain the city’s traffic improvements.
