ISLAMABAD: The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced that COAS General Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), visited Uzbekistan’s top civil and military leadership.
The army chief undertook a two-day official visit to Uzbekistan with the aim of “enhancing military-to-military cooperation and defense collaboration,” ISPR said.

During the trip, COAS Gen Munir personally met with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the defense minister, and the chairman and secretary of the State Security Service of Uzbekistan.
The statement highlights that during these meetings, the army chief stressed the importance of bolstering mutual training cooperation and intelligence sharing.
The statement further states, “Gen Munir praised the Uzbekistan military forces for their high standards of training, readiness, and their grasp of regional security issues.”
Upon his arrival at the Ministry of Defense, COAS Munir received a warm welcome and a guard of honor from a well-turned-out contingent.
Additionally, COAS Munir paid tribute by laying a floral wreath at the memorial complex of martyrs in Tashkent.
In July, Gen Munir visited Tehran, where he and his Iranian counterpart pledged to eliminate “terrorism in border areas,” as per the military’s media wing.
According to the ISPR, the army chief engaged in detailed meetings with the military leadership of the neighboring country, including Chief of General Staff of Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Bagheri, during his “successful” two-day visit.
Both military commanders affirmed that “terrorism poses a common threat to the region, affecting both countries.”
“They committed to eradicating the menace of terrorism in border areas through intelligence sharing and taking effective actions against terrorist networks. They also explored opportunities to enhance cooperation in the realm of security,” added the ISPR.
Furthermore, Gen Munir met with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahain, during which they discussed the significance of Pakistan-Iran bilateral relations for regional peace and stability.
