ISLAMABAD: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee today sighted the Zil Hajj moon this evening. Hence, in Pakistan Eid ul Azha will be celebrated on June 29 (Thursday) across the country.
Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced the decision on Monday evening along with members of the committee.
The committee received testimonies of moon-sighting Karachi, Lahore, and other cities.
On Tuesday, the federal government will notify three days of Eid holidays.
Meanwhile, Representatives of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, SUPARCO, Department of Meteorology, and Ministry of Science and Technology also attended the meeting on Monday.

Members of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee are sighting the moon of Zil-Hajj on Monday.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal committee announced the moon-sighting after taking input from zonal committees of Ruet-e-Hilal.
According to the committee, the first Zil Hajj will start on June 20 (Tuesday), and Eid ul Adha will be celebrated in the country on June 29.
Earlier, the Met Office announced the birth of the Zil-Hajj moon on June 18 at 9:37 pm that could be sighted on June 19.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meets on the 29th of every Islamic month and announces the sighting of the moon.
On Sunday, Saudi Arabia announced the first day of Zil-Hajj on June 19.
The day of Arafah, the holiest in Islam will be observed on Tuesday (June 27). And Saudi Arabia will celebrate the first day of Eid ul Adha on Wednesday (June 28).
After the moon sighting, the federal and provincial governments will notify Eidul Azha holidays tomorrow.
Earlier, finance minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar said that the government will issue salaries to its employees on June 23. This will enable federal government employees to celebrate Eidul Azha with religious fervor and enthusiasm.
Advance payment of salaries will also facilitate government employees to spend Eid holidays with their family members living in far-flung areas.
