PM Shehbaz Sharif orders to withdraw reference against Justice Qazi Faez Isa
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif today ordered the federal law minister Azam Nazir Tarar to withdraw the curative review reference against Justice Qazi Faez Isa of the Supreme Court.
The Prime Minister observed that the action PTI government took action against Justice Qazi Faez Isa on “flimsy” and “baseless” grounds.
The federal cabinet had already given its decision in this case last year.
PM Shehbaz Sharif said, “The curative review was based on ill-will. He said that the intention of the PTI government was to intimidate the honourable Judge at the behest of Imran Niazi”.
The Prime Minister Office today issued a separate statement wherein it said that a cabinet meeting chaired by the premier had already given assent to taking back the reference. Law Minister has been directed by the PM to take back the curative plea, PMO added.
Last year in July, the federal cabinet had approved the withdrawal of the curative review petition.
Meanwhile, the five-member bench of the Supreme Court dissolved on Thursday after Justice Aminuddin Khan recused from hearing the case.
Also, the Senate passed the Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Bill 2023, stripping the chief justice of suo moto.
Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar tabled the bill in the Senate. PTI Senators rejected the bill, torn its copies, and termed it anti-judiciary law.
According to the provision-wise approval of the bill, 60 Senators supported the bill while 19 opposed it.

The National Assembly on Tuesday passed the Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Bill 2023. The aim of the bill is to ‘clip wings’ of the chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) over suo motu jurisdiction.
During his speech, the law minister ruled out that ‘there was a need for a constitutional amendment’.
The bill read that it is expedient to make a law providing for certain practices and procedures of the Supreme Court.
