A Levies officer was martyred and two others were injured in an attack on a check post in Kalat, Balochistan, on Sunday.
The slain officer was identified as Constable Ali Nawaz Lango, while the injured were Constable Ghulam Ali, son of Gul Muhammad, and Muhammad Ayub, son of Wahid Bakhsh. The attackers fled the scene after a counterattack by Levies personnel.
The incident occurred at the Togo Chappar area, and the wounded officers were immediately transferred to Quetta for treatment. A heavy contingent of Levies forces was deployed at the site and launched a search operation to apprehend the assailants.
A government spokesperson condemned the attack, praising the swift response of the Levies personnel, which forced the attackers to retreat. The spokesperson also confirmed that an investigation was underway, with operations launched to capture the suspects.
Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti paid tribute to the fallen officer, recognizing his bravery in sacrificing his life for duty.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also strongly condemned the attack, honoring the martyred Levies officer. He reiterated that “terrorists are enemies of Balochistan’s progress and stability,” and vowed that their efforts would not succeed.
Security has been heightened in Kalat, and search operations are ongoing to swiftly apprehend the attackers.
