The administration of Upper Dir has taken the precautionary measure of closing the approach road to the Lowari Tunnel following heavy rainfall on both sides of the roadway, advising travelers against journeys on Friday night.
As of 10 pm, rain and snowfall persisted in the plain areas of the city, as per updates provided.
Furthermore, all educational institutions in Upper Dir and Chitral will remain closed on Saturday (tomorrow). Originally scheduled to reopen today, March 1, after winter vacations, they remained shut due to inclement weather and heavy snowfall/rainfall.
A notification from the deputy commissioner stated, “All streams and rivers are flooded due to the increase in water flow, raising concerns about landslides, avalanches, and other weather-related mishaps. Therefore, March 2 is declared a general public holiday for all government and private institutions within Upper Dir district.”
Reportedly, the Kalash valley experienced two feet of snowfall, while heavy snow disrupted life in Garam Chashma and surrounding areas.
In Swat, rain and snowfall persisted in plain areas, Kalam, and Mahodand Lake.
Tragically, rescue officials reported the death of a minor after a house’s roof collapsed in Peshawar’s Badhber.
Despite the adverse weather conditions, tourists from Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan, Charsadda, Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad flocked to Kalam, Malam Jabba, and Bahrian on Sunday to enjoy the snowfall and trekking opportunities.
