Marwat
Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sher Afzal Marwat has firmly ruled out the possibility of pleading with party founder Imran Khan for reentry into the party, declaring that his self-respect has been repeatedly undermined.
Speaking during programme “Jirga” on Sunday, Marwat expressed disappointment over his repeated expulsions from PTI and said he no longer cares whether he is allowed back into the party or not.
“I was expelled again and again, and my self-respect was crushed every time,” Marwat said, visibly disheartened. His remarks came in the wake of his most recent expulsion from PTI in February 2025 — the third time he has been removed from the party’s ranks.
Although he insisted he would not beg Imran Khan to take him back, Marwat did express a desire to meet the incarcerated party founder. “I want to meet Khan Sahib to tell him about the injustices that were done to me,” he said.
He also did not hold back in criticizing the current PTI leadership, accusing them of lacking a coherent strategy to secure Khan’s release from prison. “They don’t have any plan or roadmap to get Imran Khan out,” Marwat claimed.
Imran Khan, who has been behind bars since August 2023, is facing multiple legal cases, including charges related to corruption and terrorism. His incarceration followed his ouster from office through a no-confidence vote in April 2022.
Marwat’s final expulsion from PTI followed a meeting at Adiala Jail where party leaders including Omar Ayub Khan, Shibli Faraz, and Senator Ali Zafar voiced their concerns to Imran Khan regarding Marwat’s conduct during a public rally in Swabi. Khan reportedly took strong exception to Marwat’s unapproved speech at the gathering.
Following the meeting, PTI’s Additional Secretary General Firdous Shamim Naqvi issued an official notification stating that Marwat had failed to satisfy the party with his response to a show-cause notice and was being expelled with immediate effect.
The Swabi rally, held on February 8 against alleged election rigging, became a flashpoint in Marwat’s tensions with party leadership. Though initially barred from speaking, he was later called to the stage by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
During his address, Marwat delivered a pointed remark, stating that “bad people often help in bad times, while good people remain silent in good times,” a comment widely seen as criticism of PTI’s current leadership.
Marwat’s statements reflect ongoing fractures within PTI and highlight growing disillusionment among some of its prominent former leaders.
