Showcasing Pakistan’s Green Vision on the Global Stage
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and former New Zealand prime minister Dame Jacinda Ardern inaugurated the Pakistan Pavilion at the COP30 Climate Conference in Brazil on Tuesday, marking a significant moment of international collaboration for climate action.
Ardern, attending the global summit as Special Representative for Pacific Nations, toured the pavilion and watched a short documentary highlighting Punjab’s environmental protection and pollution control efforts. She praised the province’s proactive measures, describing them as “bold and commendable steps for environmental progress in a short span of time.”
Promoting Climate Resilience and Green Innovation
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz briefed Ardern on Punjab’s climate resilience strategy, emphasizing policies focused on sustainable urban development, clean energy transition, and green economic growth. She reaffirmed her government’s commitment to addressing the climate crisis through innovation and interprovincial coordination.
Maryam also lauded Ardern’s legacy of compassionate and forward-thinking leadership, calling her “an inspiration for women in politics and governance worldwide.”
The CM was accompanied by Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Rana Sikandar, and Zeeshan Rafiq during the ceremony.
The Pakistan Pavilion at COP30 aims to showcase the country’s renewable energy projects, eco-friendly urban initiatives, and provincial action plans for climate resilience. It also provides a platform for forging global partnerships to combat climate change and promote sustainable growth.
