ISLAMABAD: Heavy smog continues to disrupt travel across Punjab, leading to motorway closures and hazardous driving conditions.
To prioritize safety, the Motorway Police have shut down several routes impacted by the dense smog, including Motorway M2 from Lahore to Sheikhupura, Motorway M3 from Lahore to Jaranwala, and Motorway M4 from Gojra to Abdul Hakeem.
A Motorway Police spokesperson urged travelers to avoid nighttime travel and drive during daylight hours when visibility is better. Drivers are also advised to use front and rear fog lights to enhance safety.
“Motorways are closed to ensure safe travel,” the spokesperson stated.
On Friday morning, thick fog and smog led to multiple vehicle collisions near the Hiran Minar Interchange in Sheikhupura, injuring five people.
According to rescue officials, the accidents occurred due to drastically reduced visibility, with multiple vehicles colliding along the highway. The injured were taken to the hospital for treatment, and several vehicles sustained damage.
Rescue 1122 and the Motorway Police are conducting rescue operations at the site, causing traffic delays along the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway near the Hiran Minar Interchange. The Motorway Police expect to reopen the road for traffic once the rescue operations are complete.
