Security forces carried out a major intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Sultankhel area of Lakki Marwat, eliminating eight militants linked to banned extremist outfits. The operation, conducted on Friday, was launched after intelligence reports indicated militant movement near the border with Punjab’s Mianwali district.
According to official sources, the militants were hiding in a forested region between Kaichi Kamar and Sultankhel. The hideout was detected through aerial surveillance and later targeted by an unmanned combat drone. Following the strikes, a sanitisation operation was launched to ensure the complete neutralisation of threats in the area.
During the operation, eight militants were killed, and their shelters were completely destroyed. A significant cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives was recovered, underscoring the scale of the militants’ preparations. Security personnel confirmed that the area has now been secured to prevent further incursions.
TTP Commander Tariq Kochi Killed in Balochistan Border Ambush
In a separate development, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) commander Tariq Kochi was reportedly killed by unidentified gunmen near the border between South Waziristan and Balochistan.
Sources revealed that Kochi and his associates were ambushed in the Tesh mountain range by unknown assailants. The incident occurred late Thursday night, resulting in Kochi’s death along with several of his aides.
Police confirmed that Kochi, a resident of Toi Khula tehsil in Lower South Waziristan, had been actively involved in multiple terror attacks, including assaults on security convoys, police personnel, and civilians. His death is being viewed as a significant blow to TTP’s operational network in the region.
Security officials stated that investigations are underway to identify the attackers, though preliminary information suggests possible infighting among militant factions.
Forces Foil Major Terror Bid in Bajaur
Meanwhile, security forces successfully foiled a major terrorist attempt in Bajaur district by destroying an explosives-laden vehicle before it could reach its target. The operation took place in the Thangai area of Lowi Mamund tehsil around 11:15 a.m. on Friday.
District Police Officer Waqas Rafique confirmed that the vehicle, a non-customs paid car, was loaded with a large quantity of high explosives. Acting on intelligence inputs, security personnel opened fire at the vehicle from a safe distance, causing it to explode before it could inflict damage.
The quick response of the security team prevented potential mass casualties and large-scale destruction. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the origin of the explosives and the individuals behind the failed attack.
Heightened Counterterrorism Efforts Across Pakistan
The latest operations in Lakki Marwat, Bajaur, and South Waziristan reflect Pakistan’s intensifying counterterrorism campaign against militant groups operating along its western border. Over the past several months, security forces have conducted numerous IBOs to dismantle terror networks responsible for cross-border attacks and domestic unrest.
Officials reaffirmed their commitment to eradicating terrorism from the region, emphasizing that such operations will continue until militant sanctuaries are completely eliminated.
Analysts believe that the recent surge in anti-terror activity is linked to Islamabad’s broader strategy to secure border regions and prevent extremist infiltration amid rising regional tensions.
The elimination of the TTP commander and the prevention of a major terror attack in Bajaur mark a significant achievement for Pakistan’s security forces. These operations underscore the government’s resolve to ensure peace and stability, particularly in areas long affected by militancy.
As intelligence sharing and regional cooperation improve, Pakistan continues to strengthen its security architecture to counter evolving threats and safeguard its citizens.
