The Pakistan Airports Authority has officially invited bids from qualified consultants for the development of a new airport in Sukkur, a move aimed at boosting regional air connectivity and supporting future travel demand.
Experienced Airport Design and Planning Firms Encouraged to Apply
In a recent announcement, the authority called on firms with expertise in airport design, master planning, and feasibility studies to submit their proposals. Applications must be sent to the Planning and Development Directorate of the Airports Authority. The submission deadline is October 22.
According to the notice, consultants with prior experience in airport development will be given preference during the evaluation process. The goal is to ensure that the selected firm can deliver high-quality planning and execution for this critical infrastructure project.
Sukkur Airport Part of Broader National Aviation Expansion
The Sukkur airport project is part of a larger federal initiative to upgrade and expand Pakistan’s aviation infrastructure. Earlier this year, the government approved plans to construct new airports in Sukkur, Mirpur (Azad Kashmir), and Dera Ismail Khan. These projects are designed to enhance regional connectivity and accommodate increasing passenger traffic in emerging urban areas.
Sukkur, a key city in Sindh province, is strategically located and serves as an important hub for commerce and travel. The new airport will help ease congestion at larger airports and provide improved access to air transport for northern Sindh and surrounding regions.
The Pakistan Airports Authority’s move reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to modernize aviation infrastructure and promote economic development through better connectivity.
