Pakistan and Iran have reaffirmed their commitment to deepen security coordination and strengthen bilateral ties. The pledge came during a meeting between Field Marshal Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), and Dr Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Wednesday.
According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the two leaders focused on expanding cooperation, reviewing regional security challenges, and enhancing joint efforts against terrorism.
Focus on Regional Peace and Counterterrorism
During the meeting, both sides discussed the latest security dynamics affecting the region. Field Marshal Asim Munir reiterated Pakistan’s firm commitment to maintaining peace and stability. He stressed the need for closer coordination with Iran to counter growing terrorist threats.
He highlighted that stronger strategic cooperation between the two neighbours has become essential due to evolving geopolitical shifts. The COAS noted that Pakistan aims to work closely with Iran to address shared challenges and safeguard regional interests.
Iran Recognises Pakistan’s Key Role in Stability
Dr Ali Larijani praised Pakistan’s important role in promoting peace and stability across the region. He expressed Iran’s determination to further enhance diplomatic, security, and strategic ties with Pakistan.
Larijani emphasised that continuous dialogue, trust-building, and joint initiatives are crucial for tackling regional challenges. He said that deeper partnership between Pakistan and Iran will contribute to long-term stability and mutual security.
The meeting concluded with both sides agreeing to advance cooperation, strengthen communication channels, and work together for a safer and more stable region.
