The Pakistan Meteorologist Department (PMD) has issued a warning about potential disruptions in transportation due to snowfall and rain on January 30 and 31 in various parts of the country.
The department anticipates heavy rain and snowfall in the mountainous regions as a westerly wind system makes its way into Pakistan.
In an official statement, the Met Office has advised caution to tourists during the expected snowfall over the next two days (Tuesday and Wednesday). The westerly wave is projected to impact the upper regions of the country and is likely to persist there for the coming days.
Snowfall has already commenced in Murree since Monday, prompting authorities to utilize machinery for the clearance of pathways to ensure smooth travel for tourists.
Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Murree, conducted inspections in various areas, including Jhika Gali, Kashmir Point, Mall Road, Kuldana, and others. He reviewed the measures implemented by the administration to facilitate tourists.
Karachi is also preparing for cold weather following a morning shower, and authorities have issued guidelines for tourists as snowfall begins in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
The administration in Murree has taken proactive measures to clear snow from different roads, with the DC reporting 0.5 inches of snowfall and the application of salt on roads for better traction.
All relevant departments have deployed personnel in the field, and traffic conditions remain normal on the roads, the DC added.
