Pakistan’s military leadership has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening brotherly ties with Saudi Arabia. The focus is on sustainable defence collaboration and regional security cooperation.
General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) of Pakistan, recently visited Saudi Arabia. During the visit, he met General Fayyadh bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili, Chief of General Staff of the Saudi Armed Forces.
Discussions on Security and Cooperation
The two military leaders discussed both regional and global security situations. They also explored avenues to enhance bilateral defence cooperation, emphasizing long-term strategic partnerships. Both sides expressed determination to deepen their defence collaboration.
The Saudi military recognised the professional expertise of Pakistan’s armed forces. General Al-Ruwaili also acknowledged Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and the CJCSC’s role in consolidating Pakistan–Saudi Arabia relations.
Prestigious Honour Awarded
During the visit, General Shamshad was awarded the “King Abdulaziz Medal of Honour of the Excellent Class.” The award highlights the importance of Pakistan-Saudi defence ties and the recognition of Pakistan’s contributions to regional stability.
Importance of Pakistan-Saudi Military Relations
The visit underscores the strong bilateral relationship between the two countries, which extends beyond defence to strategic, economic, and cultural cooperation. Defence collaboration has been a key pillar in maintaining regional security and addressing emerging threats.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia continue to work closely on intelligence sharing, joint training exercises, and defence technology initiatives. Both militaries have emphasised maintaining open communication channels to address challenges and strengthen mutual trust.
